The long-awaited renovations of the Fairport Harbor West Breakwater light back have begun. Uninhabited since 1948, the classic 4-square style working building first lit in 1925, is undergoing a top to bottom makeover. among other things, the windows are being stripped and the glass replaced. The plaster walls are being repaired and the tile and hardwood floors are being cleaned and refinished. Modern plumbing and electricity will be added as will a fully-equipped kitchen, 3 bedrooms and other casual living space. In addition to continuing to serve as an active aid-to-navigation maintained by the us coast guard, the lighthouse will be used as a vacation retreat and summer get-a-way home.
